Hi, I'm a newbie with a SuperCub LP. I dropped my RC controller and the joystick got jammed into the case. I fixed that, but now when I turn the controller ON the plane's rudder and elevator move from center.

My Dad and I opened the remote - he says the "pots" move from neutral and need to be stuck there.

Any help - besides sending it to the factory?

Thanks for all the info!

zoonpc,

Open your transmitter and adjust (re-adjust) the potentiometers that are moved by the sticks so that the control surfaces are neutral with the trim centered.

Looks like they were moved slightly due to the fall.

Added here by editing to add pictures and explanations.

I have a 3 channel Tx that also works on 27 Mhz.
It might be different than yours but I opened it and took some pics to see how the pots (potentioneter controlled by the sticks) are mounted.

The suspicion is that they have changed position slightly. Have a look to see if the trims are functioning ok mechanically.

Have a good look inside to see if anything happens to be broken.

Hey _ _ _ I am only trying to be usefull.

Thanks so much. It's Z's Dad here - he's off to school.

You are absolutely right about the problem. The pots definitely move out of adjustment. We've reset them and manipulated the controls and trim levers and can see the pots move out of neutral, requiring they be reset again or they displace the controls when power is applied.

The factory used some sort of pointed heat tool to mark the two plastic "cams" that attach to the pot - when the halves are aligned it is in neutral. This area is not visible in your pictures (thank you for them) but I believe you would have the same set-up.

So, my question: Should I cement them together at that point?

I am willing to try to fix this thing since the next step is the factory, and it is broken anyway.

Thanks for you time and effort.

When my nephew got his Super Cub LP he put it all together and charged the battery. Then he went to the garage, with a nice flat smooth floor where he decided to just give it a little bit of throttle as an experiment. Since the floor was so smooth the plane took off across the floor at a pretty good clip. He jerked back on the throttle lever so fast and hard that he snapped it off!

He wound up buying a new controller instead of trying to fix it, but he has no experience with electronics at all, so it was probably a wise choice.

I'm not really giving advice, just telling what I would do. If it were me I would try to fix it myself. If it looks like the connection should be solid, but it moves, then cement it. If it has to go back to the factory or it needs to be replaced if the repair doesn't work, then you're really not out very much if the repair fails. But again, that's just me. I am a tinkerer.

That is my tendency, too. Open it up and see how it works, see if I can make it work when it doesn't. Thanks for the feedback.

I guess I'm trying to see if anyone has specific experience that would increase my odds of success. I want to infect my son with the tinkering thing!

I wouldn't worry about the infection. I have taught my grandsons the importance of tinkering. You can ask any of them. If something is broken, Papa can fix it.

Of course what they don't know won't hurt them. I have been known to buy a replacement instead of repairing. Just don't tell them, they think I fixed everything.

The important thing is to not let them take anything apart that is very expensive.

Hello Z's Dad,

Z is very lucky to have a Dad like you.

I am sure you noticed that I indicated the pictures to be TYPICAL of these transmitters.

In one of the pics you see a stick-potentiometer-trim assembly out of its position.

When re-assembling this transmitter the front and rear half have molded in locations which locate the assemblies. All is molded very accurately and it makes it difficult after sitting the sticks and pots in one half to line up the other half of the case. There is no play at all after assembly.

You have a different arrangement I think.

I hope you can solve the problem. Looks like you can.

Was nice to read you.

Best regards de KILOP

KILOP, thanks for the kind words and for your time - I am more help with this hobby than his violin, that's for sure. I need to spend more time examining the BACK half of the transmitter body, maybe that is where we are missing it. Thanks for the idea.

Hi zoonpc,

We do not easily forget our friends in this forum.

Hoping you read this post.

How did you make out with the transmitter?
